STOLL

Représentation
exactement colorée d'après nature des Spectres ou Phasmes, des Mantes,
des Sauterelles, des Grillons, des Criquets et des Blattes...
qui se trouvent dans les quatre parties du monde.
Amsterdam, 1787 - (1813 or 1815) - 172 p - 65 handcoloured plates.
An extremely rare work, text in Dutch and in French in parallel columns.
The compilation varies with each bibliography. Hagen &
Horn-Schenkling say: 68 p - 75 pl; British Mus. Cat. of the Library: 141
p - 70 pl; Junk Rara: 68 p - 78 pl.
Our book contains: Titre: 2 p; Introduction: 10 p; Phasmes &
Mantes: 76 p (1 to 74 + 41* & 42* the page 19 wrongly noted 21)
- 25 pl (I to XXV); Sauterelles à Sabre: 28 p - 13 pl (Ia to XIIIa);
Sauterelles de passage: 40 p - 18 pl (on 23: Ib to XVIb, XXIb, XXIIb);
Grillons: 8 p - 4 pl (Ic to IVc); Blattes: 8 p - 5 pl (Id to Vd).
So it miss 5 plates (XVIIb to XXb and XXIIIb) and some text at the end
of Phasmes & Mantes (should be 79 pages), Sauterelles de
passage (should be 41 pages) and Blattes (should be 14).
Text and plates are nice and are in new half leather bound as the part
were published: Phasmes & Mantes: pp. 1-20 and plates I-VI, pp.
21-40 and plates VII-XII, pp. 41*-56 and plates XIII-XVIII, then
Sauterelles à Sabre: pp. 16 and plates Ia-VIa, then Sauterelles de
Passage: pp. 1-16 and plates Ib-VIb, pp. 17-28 and plates VIIb-XIIb,
then Sauterelles à Sabre: pp. 17-28 and plates VIIa-XIIa, then Phasmes
& Mantes: pp. 57-74 and plates XIX-XXV, then Sauterelles de
Passage: pp. 29-40 and plates XIIIa (from Sauterelles à Sabre),
XIIIb-XVIb, XXIb, XXIIb, Grillons: pp. 1-8, plates Ic-IVc, Blattes pp.
1-8 and plates Id-5d.
Slight waterstainings
at the bottom of page 9-10 of the introduction and pages 1-6 of Phasmes
& Mantes.
That is maybe the
rarest work on Orthoptera.
